The treasury office is responsible for all financial affairs of the Illinois Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.  Activities include: payroll services for denominational employees; investment of conference funds; disbursement of funds according to donor designation;  preparation of appropriate financial statements; preparation of the annual budget and monitoring adherence to the budget; care of the office physical plant and training of local church and school treasurers, as well as providing member access to financial reports by appointment.

The treasurer chairs and serves on various boards and committees.  

The treasury department manages insurance and loss control services; and the treasurer serves as office manager.  

The annual budget and conference policies, which are approved by the Illinois Conference executive committee, are followed in the work of the treasury department.  General financial policies and guidelines are put in place by the North American Division and the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.  The treasury staff follow those policies and guidelines in managing the finances for the Illinois Conference.

Records of the local churches and schools are audited to examine and perform analytical procedures on the data presented in the financial statements.

Formal Statement of Responsibility

The Conference Constitution and Bylaws state:


"The Treasurer shall work under the direction of the Executive Committee. It shall be the duty of the Treasurer to receive all funds, to disburse them in harmony with the actions of the Executive Committee, to remit all required funds to the Union and the North American Division in harmony with the North American Division policy, and to render such financial statements at regular intervals as may be desired by the President of the Conference or by the Executive Committee. Copies of these financial statements shall be furnished to the officers of the Lake Union Conference. Bank accounts approved by the Executive Committee shall be operated by the Treasurer and/or such other individuals as may be authorized by the Executive Committee. The Treasurer shall perform such other duties as usually pertain to the office."

The responsibilities of the Treasurer of the Illinois Conference of Seventh-day Adventists include:

  • Receiving and distributing all funds in harmony with the actions of the Conference Executive Committee and denominational policy.
  • Overseeing the auditing process of churches, schools, and other organizations associated with the Conference.
  • Preparing and presenting financial statements.
  • Serving as chairman and member of various boards and committees within the Conference, and promoting continuity with the total denominational organizations and institutions.
  • Directing and counseling in the financial planning and operating of the Conference.
  • Developing and monitoring the Conference operating and capital improvement budgets.


The Conference Treasurer works closely with the Conference President and Conference Secretary in the management of the Conference, and reports to the Conference Executive Committee and the Constituency. The Treasurer also counsels and cooperates with the Lake Union Conference, North American Division, and General Conference leadership (these are different administrative levels in the Seventh-day Adventist Church).
